About Us

I started hairdressing in 1972 and after spending a year as a stylist onboard a Greek cruise ship I returned home and opened my own business in 1979.

The original salon was called Raffles and changed to Janet Maitland Hair Excellence in 2002. The group now has 2 salons and a training business.

These values are the foundation of our business and are reinforced in all of our activities. These are a few of the ways in which we demonstate our beliefs:

• Caring for others and surrounding myself with people of the same values has meant that together we could put a well into an African village school for orphans of aids who previously had to walk 30 minutes to get a drink. More recently we raised £500 to send Laura to Lesotho to look after orphans and educate on HIV

• The Janet Maitland Creative Team  have shown great energy ,creativity, dedication and focus. I wanted the best for my team and I’m pleased to say they’ve had the thrill of winning major awards this year.

• Raise £1500.00 for stray dogs in Durham and collect blankets.

• Give hundreds of pounds worth of prizes to local good causes

Sandra Snowdon Hairdressing Icon 30 Years Celebration.

To celebrate Sandara's 30th year in company we held a candle lit dinner in the Radisson Blu hotel in Durham, and a big surprise at the end of the evening was a tribute Sandra's career in hairdressing at Janet Maitland with a viewing of the following DVD.
