SPEAKER EVENT HONOURS OUTSTANDING WOMEN MARCH 2011

Roberta Blackman-Woods, MP for the City of Durham, gave strong praise to the contributions of outstanding women in the community at a special Reception hosted by Speaker John Bercow in the Houses of Parliament.

The MP was delighted to invite to the event Janet Maitland, a successful Durham businesswoman, as guest of honour. Roberta and Janet met with guests from all over the country who have all played an outstanding role in their local communities.

The guests included: community champions, journalists, businesswomen, women from the arts, sportswomen as well as MPs, Peers, and Councillors. Roberta gave particular praise to Janet for her investment of the young people of Durham through her training academy in Gilesgate.

The event took place last week in the Speaker's House and was organised as a cross-party event. Speaker John Bercow also singled out the women and praised the outstanding input that they had in their local communities. 

Roberta said:

"I was delighted to invite Janet to Parliament to honour her work as an outstanding businesswoman in Durham.

“Janet is an inspiring figure who plays a fantastic role in the community, not least because of her investment in the young people of Durham with her training academy. It was a pleasure to take part in such a fantastic event and I pay tribute to the fantastic contribution she continues to make.”

MAY 2010 Creative Team wins top Schwarzkopf award

Janet Maitland Hair Excellence scooped two of the Creative Tean awards at The Hilton Manchester in May 2010.One was the prestigious Schwarzkopf Essential looks award and the second a team award.The awards were presented in front of hundreds of  top hairdressers and press from around the country.The fantastic night was one of the company's proudest moments.

BL Photographic Competition 2009

The BL Photographic Competition for hairdressing trainees was a really exciting event for the whole of our team. Lauren and Charlotte both walked away with awards and some fantastic prizes. Lauren winner of the year 2 competition won the Tigi Cutting Course in their London Academy, Tigi Rockaholic Products, a cutting coruse with Lee Stafford and a Photoshoot with Scott Spock. Charlotte won a cutting course with Lee Stafford and Tigi Rockaholic products.

Both girls are still buzzin' from the night!

BL Photographic Competition Finalist 2008 - Lauren

 

Janet and Sandra were thrilled when Lauren became a finalist in the BL Hairdressing photographic competition for first year students.Lauren's model was  Rachelle, a Senior stylist at our Durham salon.  Everyone was really excited to meet Celebrity hairstylist Lee Stafford of TV fame who presented the finalists with their prizes on a great night in Newcastle.Creative Director Sandra said - ' This is a fantastic start to Lauren's career, we know she has a fantastic career ahead of her.

As a widely acknowledged expert in training Janet is often asked to deliver presentations to the industry. Janet’s most recent event was for the national hairdressing magazine FRIZZ at the Tower Hotel in London.

Janet delivered a presentation to the industry on the importance of internal training and building an inspired team.
 
Janet’s reputation in training is such that not only has she recorded a documentary on apprenticeships for Radio 4 she was also invited to advise the then Minister for Skills Ivan Lewis M.P.

The salons reputation has warranted appearances on BBC News, Radio 1 and Radio 5 Live as well as local stations where Janet’s views as an industry expert are sought.

INSPIRING YOUNG HAIRDRESSER RACHELLE SUMMERSON-WRIGHT JOINS EXCITING YOUTH TEAM.

 

Rachelle from Janet Maitland Hair Excellence, Durham salon, has won one of twelve coveted places in the Tigi Inspirational Youth Team, beating young stylists from across the UK.

 

For the next six months a team of top professionals will work to refine the teams hairdressing skills, presentation skills and fashion knowledge. Ultimately the Inspirational Youth Team is trained to take part in the Inspirational Youth show at "Salon Live” , a three day hairdressing exhibition at Excel in the London Docklands – in front of an audience of over 1000 hairdressers.

 

Team leader, Nick Irwin, Tigi European Creative Director said: ‘These are the luckiest twelve hairdressers in the world!!’.

 

Janet said “Rachelle has always been dedicated to her career, its great to see her being recognised at this level.”
